More than a scarf—this is a story of the unseen: censorship meets reverence, labor meets luxury.
Introducing the inaugural piece in the s(m)ilkscapes series, an ongoing collaboration between artist Aimee Koran and creative collective Corner Store.
This hand rolled, 100% silk scarf features artwork drawn from the "chamber" edition of Koran's Milkscapes series—works created using breast milk and pigment—that function as abstract documents of invisible labor that often goes unrecorded. In creating s(m)ilkscapes, Koran expands this gesture into wearable form, allowing others to carry and display what’s usually hidden: the residue of motherhood, the strength in softness.
S(m)ilkscape silk scarf
Designed by Aimee Koran in collaboration with Corner Store
The packaging and authenticity card reference Aimee’s grandmother’s textile union card and the envelope it was stored in—a symbol of collective power and working-class dignity that lives in tension with the undervalued labor of mothering.
Inside every s(m)ilkscapes box: pink tissue sealed with a pixelated nipple. A censored breast. A closed chamber. Open it and reveal a silk work of art inspired by the power and beauty of a mother’s milk, our first form of care, connection, and nourishment.
